Keep on moving on, I keep on moving on
What a year. What a month! It’s been nine days and this month of a little over a week feels like a lot more. Lots has been going on: my father had (successful) double-bypass heart surgery, our home continues to be worth five dollars, I haven’t been feeling so good, aaaagh! Quite a lot. In that time, I’ve also been busy with a couple of projects. One of those projects is helping out my buddy/responder-to-my-posts Lauren fancy up her site. I will make no claims to knowing every single thing that a person could know about cascading style sheets and PHP as it pertains to the blogosphere and whatnot, but I apparently knew enough to be in a position to help Lauren out, and thus I did and continue to do so! Lauren is sort of like Honey Badger or 90′s style Riot Grrrls who don’t wait around for opportunities to show up, she’s all YO CHECK OUT MY JOURNALISMMMZ DAWGGS and Forbes took notice. She’s a superstar!
Perhaps it’s because this year’s had some upheavals and trials, but I found myself turning to comforting stuff like foods high in saturated fats (uh… about those gym visits… let’s not talk about them!) and stuff from simpler times, like Sailor Moon. When I was at my parents’ home recently, I found a bunch of old website files on their computer, and among them was an unpublished draft of my website about my most favoritest Sailor Moon character, Sailor Pluto. Man, I spent a lot of time on that site (and when I look at it now, I realize that some of it’s really kind of crappy in terms of content quality) instead of my college classwork! You know, working on that site is what gave me the skills that I now use to do my current job. Trying out like every neat new HTML or CSS trick that I learned about was one of the hallmarks of that site, and seriously, all the stuff I learned about working on my many nerdy websites is what got me the job I’ve had for the past nine years! Yeah, I really liked Sailor Moon, and I got pretty darn nostalgic, and before I knew it I’d registered a new domain and decided that I’d give myself some time to work on a fun new site. In the spirit of my original website, it’s mostly a chance for me to try out all sorts of fancy new CSS3/HTML5 techniques, plus further my knowledge of PHP as it pertains to the blogosphere. Unlike the wild and crazy World Wide Web of ten years ago, there’s not really much need for a “character shrine†devoted to one character from one Japanese kids’ cartoon when there’s stuff like Wikipedia around to fulfill your need to know every OCD detail about Sailor Pluto. This might have been a terrible idea, I don’t know. We’ll see. Right now, I’m screwing around with the design and coming up with things like color palettes…

I’ve also been working on some new products for my store (note the new URL). Specifically, I’m working on some pierced earrings that look like those worn by another character on Sailor Moon. Oh, just you wait! I botched up the first batch a bit, but I just got supplies to try again, and I think the results should be pleeeeasing. I’m hoping to get those out sooner rather than later because gosh, I’d sure like to maybe start making even a teeny profit on my stuff, but I hear that first you gotta spend money (and mess up) to make money.
I like the first colour scheme most. I’m big on contrasting colours. The others are more analagous, which isn’t a bad thing, but I like more colour.
Thanks so much for the shout out! My site is so fancy, thanks to you! You do a great job of pretending to know how to code =P
